Divorce Day 2024

Family Law Practitioners receive a higher volume of calls in and around the first working days of the New Year from people deciding to take steps to end their marriage and issue a divorce application. This has led to the first working Monday of the year being referred to as “Divorce Day”, and for 2024, Divorce Day is on Monday 8th January.
Since the law change to no-fault divorce in April 2022, our family team have issued more agreed divorces, given it is no longer a requirement to assign blame to either party. However, whether a divorce is agreed or not, it does not change the fact that Divorce remains an emotionally difficult time for most couples, with some very difficult and sometimes complex issues to grapple with, from finances to children arrangements.
At Johnson Astills, we can make the divorce application for you should you find yourself in need of expert assistance. Please follow this link which will explain further how we can help you with regard to the divorce process and, more generally, how we can help should your relationship break down.
Similarly, we can give advice and support you with the financial process and arrangements that arise from the divorce. This may be implementing an agreement reached between you already or could extend to advising on a financial agreement which is fair and reasonable in all the circumstances. Caution must be applied when reaching agreement with your partner directly, especially at a time of great upheaval and emotion. Sometimes leaving a period of time for reflection is better than rushing in and making quick decisions which you may later go on to regret. At Johnson Astills we can support you with the legal process. Please follow this link to find out how we can assist you with this.
If you have children with your partner, you should also consider with whom the children will live with and when, or if, they should spend time with the other parent. This too can become an area of disagreement between divorcing parents. Johnson Astills can assist you in resolving any legal dispute in relation to this, and, if necessary, assist you with the Court process should an amicable agreement not be reachable with your partner. Please follow this link to find out more about how we can help.
Please get in touch with Johnson Astills today and we would be more than happy to discuss your requirements further.
