Crowned with Care
For all children, going into the Care system can be extremely daunting. Local Authorities do their utmost to ensure that children are placed with culturally appropriate foster carers, but this is not always the case. Can you imagine being removed from your family, and placed into a family that has no knowledge or understanding of your cultural beliefs? For some black and dual heritage children, this is their reality. Many of these children do not have access to proper hair care and this can impact upon their confidence, cultural identity and overall wellbeing.
@doopshairstudio is hosting a fantastic community event called ‘Crowned with Care’ in Leicestershire in February 2025. This event is designed to provide free hairstyling and barbering services to all black and dual heritage children that are currently in care, it will also provide each child with a hair care box worth £50 to support their needs beyond this event.

Every donation, whether big or small, will contribute to these children feeling valued and celebrated. With donations already received, 18 talented hairstylists and barbers have been confirmed for the event and the cost of the venue has been fully covered. @doopshairstudio will now be partnering with the Black Foster Care Alliance and Local Care Agencies to begin signing up children who will benefit from this event.
