Leicester Pride 2015

Leicester Pride is Leicester’s annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) festival, held at the beginning of September. It is one of a number of nationwide celebrations that takes place to celebrate and acknowledge the LGBT community. This year Leicester Pride took place on the 4th September 2015. It started with a parade at 12 noon which processed through the city before ending at Victoria Park where there was a variety of stalls, fairground rides and entertainment acts on a large stage.

Within the many stalls you could find Emery Johnson Astills. Many members of our firm turned out to stand at our stall and talk with those celebrating the festivities. It was an extremely successful event and we met a variety of people, some whom were interested in the firm and others who just wanted to see what we did or to have a chat with some of our friendly faces. This is the second year that we, as a firm, have attended the event and we intend to repeat it again next year. Jonathan Foster, Partner and Solicitor who was present on the stall commented:

‘Pride is a fantastic event, and one that we are really pleased to be a part of. As a firm we support and celebrate inclusion and diversity.  Our staff love attending and really enjoy soaking up the vibrant atmosphere.  This year we were especially pleased to be able to sponsor the ‘Leicester Pride Unsung Hero’ and intend this to become an annual award as we continue to support the LGBT community’

Emery Johnson Astills had the honour of sponsoring the inaugural Unsung Hero Award which was presented at the Pride Ball on 28th August. Emery Johnson Astills worked closely with the Pride Committee to co-create this award to raise awareness of both the issues affecting the LGBT community but also the people who work tirelessly to help by providing information, advice and support. This award was presented to Bernard Greaves for his work for LGBT equality and setting up Gayline some many years ago.
