Leading Leicestershire Lawyers Join Forces
A merger between family law and crime specialists Emery Johnson solicitors with long-established private client experts Astills solicitors, brings together some of the region’s highest profile lawyers.
Managing Partner and renowned criminal defence lawyer, Helen Johnson is the outgoing President of the Leicestershire Law Society, and Steve Swanton, currently Vice President, takes up presidential duties in 2014, so the new firm will continue to play a prominent and influential role in the region’s legal community.
Helen told us “Our unified firm is family focused and offers expert advice and representation whether you are marrying or divorcing, planning for your family’s future, moving home or business premises, or find yourself on the wrong side of a police interview resulting from something as simple as turning to talk to your children while driving.”
The merger consolidates a history of referrals between the two firms. Offering a more comprehensive range of private client services including family and care law, wills and probate, conveyancing and criminal defence, the new firm represents a robust response to competition from household retail organisations moving into legal services. It also protects local jobs in the face of the aggressive acquisition strategies of larger national firms.
Collaborative family law partner Emma Mitchell said “In the past I’ve had to refer clients to other firms for complementary legal services so I’m delighted that we’ll soon be able to provide a more holistic service under one roof. And we’ll continue to offer the personal attention and support that a client is unlikely to enjoy at a large corporate firm.”
To coincide with the official launch under the Emery Johnson Astills name on 1st September, Astills’ staff of 10 will relocate from their offices in De Montfort Square to join more than 30 Emery Johnson colleagues in expanded premises at 3-5 Welford Road.
Private client expert Steve Swanton of Astills told us “It’s important to integrate the entire team in one location to build the strong internal relationships which will underpin a successful unified firm for the future and offer our clients a seamless service across all departments.”
Emery Johnson Astills will maintain offices in Loughborough and Coalville to offer a convenient service to clients in the North of the county.
