Law Society Names Helen Johnson Solicitor Advocate Of The Year
Our founder and managing partner, Helen Johnson, has been named Solicitor Advocate Of The Year in the national Law Society Excellence awards for England and Wales.
The award, more often associated with solicitor advocates from London or much larger firms, recognises Helen’s increasingly high profile representation of defendants in the criminal courts and her contribution to the legal and wider community.
Helen impressed the Law Society judges with her sound judgment, breadth of experience and commitment to nurturing the next generation of solicitor advocates. She received her award from Lord Bach, Shadow Spokesperson for Justice and Rav Hothi from the Law Society of England and Wales.
A former President of the Leicestershire Law Society, Helen is committed to ensuring that everyone in society has equal access to the highest quality legal advice and representation. Her cases increasingly attract national press attention and she uses her growing influence to highlight potential failings in proposed changes to the criminal justice system.
A prominent figure in Leicestershire’s legal community, Helen co-founded and organises the annual Leicestershire School Courts Competition, in which students from 12 state schools competed before real judges at Leicester Crown Court this year. She is a trustee of Warning Zone, an educational charity which offers a safe space for children to explore the impact of anti-social and criminal behaviour.
The Law Society Excellence Award is the pinnacle of Helen’s growing collection of accolades, which include Winner of the Leicestershire Law Society Solicitor of the Year (last year won by Emery Johnson Astill’s Emma Mitchell), an “Inspirational Woman” award from Leicestershire Asian Business Association and runner-up in the Leicester Mercury Business Executive of the Year.
