Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme trial runs in Greater Manchester, Nottinghamshire, Gwent and Wiltshire
The scheme also known as Clare’s law, would allow people to find out information whether their partners have a violent past. It is hopeful that the scheme would significantly reduce domestic violence crimes. The Home Office statistics suggest two women are killed by their current or former partner each week in England and Wales. However, the scheme is not welcomed by all organisations. The domestic violence campaign group Refuge criticised the scheme that it does very little to protect the vulnerable partner. It has been suggested that more effort should be made to improve the training of police officers when investigating into domestic violence incidents.
