Charity begins at Work!
Friday 13th March was the 27th “Red Nose Day” or “Comic Relief” day and here at Emery Johnson Astills we were eager to get involved!
Comic Relief was founded in 1985 by Richard Curtis and his friends in the aftermath of Live Aid. The idea behind Comic Relief was to use comedy to raise money for those in need. Since the last Red Nose Day, Comic Relief has spent £99 million helping over 12 million people all over the world.
Emery Johnson Astills Charity Committee, led by Trisha Parmar, Solicitor, arranged for a whole day of fun … and Cake! We held a “Great Comic Relief Bake Off” over the lunch time period with 11 cake entries from various members of staff. The winner was Vickie Greasley who made a lovely chocolate cake that everyone enjoyed.
We also had a “Wear it Red” day which everyone got involved with from hats to nail varnish and shoes to cardigans! There was even the occasional spongey red nose and headband in sight …
Finally we did the “Funny Face Sweepstake” which allowed people to choose from a variety of celebrity funny faces including Lee Mack, Lenny Henry and Davina McCall. The winning face was the face named “Monster Moustache” with Alex Jones from The One Show making her face funny for money.
Altogether we raised £117.71 for Comic Relief!! It was a great day and everyone got involved with the fun. Trisha Parmar who arranged the event was pleased with how the fund raising went and said:
“The fundraising event was a great success with a few bakers ready to enter the Great British Bake off! I’m really pleased that everyone at EJA got involved to raise money for Comic Relief and more so proud knowing that every single donation will make a difference to someone… somewhere”
