Charity

Emery Johnson Astills has a keen interest in engaging with and making a difference in the local community; the partners and staff are generous with their time outside the working day.

We have links with both Leicester and De Montfort Universities and our solicitors make time to organise and support state secondary schools in the annual court competition held at Leicester Crown Court.

There is also a firm wide commitment to fundraising for local charities.  As president of the Leicestershire Law Society in 2012/13 our Managing Partner, Helen Johnson, chose Warning Zone as her nominated Charity.

This charity aims to ‘Provide a quality interactive learning experience that will help Year 6 children and upwards to make the transition safely into adolescence and become responsible members of their local community.’

Steve Swanton, Senior Partner in the Private Client department will be supporting Leicester Charity Link during his year as president, a local charity helping over 5000 people each year who are experiencing poverty.

2013 saw the formation of the Emery Johnson Astills Charity Committee to coordinate charity events to support our nominated local charity, Wishes for Kids.  We held a number of events, including raffles, quizzes and a Charity Bake Off, the success of which encouraged us to continue with our formal charity fundraising into 2014 and beyond.

We discovered that these events provide the opportunity for partners and staff to socialise outside the working day whilst fund raising for local children.  Wishes for Kids kindly gave us feedback at the beginning of 2014 as to how the money we raised was used and giving us the impetus to raise even more this year!
